Instructions for Microscope and Chromebook App


Setting up the microscope is very easy.

  1. Remove the specimen carrier from the bottom of the microscope case.

  2. Open the case and remove all the components.

  3. Put the flashlight in the large half circular opening opposite the handle so the illumination end faces into the case.

  4. Peel the film from the mirrors and insert into the small half circular openings on the left and right side of the lower case.

  5. Put the cover on and close latches.

  6. Insert the metal post into the focus block.

  7. Set the camera zoom wheel to about 25.

  8. Insert the Camera into the focus block with the zoom adjustment of the camera facing the flashlight and tighten the knob so the camera is tight in the mount.

  9. Place a specimen on the insert or on the microscope base.

  10. Turn the camera switch on to the WiFi setting (middle position).

  11. For the first image, we recommend using the lights built into the camera head. A bug, piece of fabric, plant leaf, sand, soil, or anything of interest can be placed into the petri dish. There is an intensity wheel on the camera for brightness control of the reflected LED’s.

  12. Start with the camera about ½” from the specimen.

     

The APP is called LR Imageview and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Your Chromebook settings must be set to allow access to the store as there may be a setting against access to the store (so kids can’t misuse the app availability). Once inside the store, search for the app. You also must have a payment system ready as the app costs $3.99. Download the APP, and allow it to install. Once installed, go to the lower left side of your chromebook and open your installed app, choose LR Imageview. You will be asked if our app can access your photos, allow this, as well as “location”. The APP should open.


Now go to your WIFI icon at the lower right of the chromebook screen and open. Go to the setting “gear” and look for the camera’s WIFI network.   It will be labelled WIFI microscope XXX. Click on this network and a "check" will appear. It should ask for a password which is 12345678, click connect, then close settings.


Now go back to the app and click the ">" button at the bottom middle of the app screen, you should soon have a live image!

 

Other notes:

The camera utilizes wireless communication and is run via its own internal WiFi. Adjusting the focus can be done using the zoom wheel or the focus knob, or both. I use both, and sometimes the zoom wheel is great used as a final "fine" focus. Battery charge on camera is a couple hours. The mirror in the base has a frosted side and clear side and the plastic protection needs to be peeled off. You can get many different looks of your specimen by adjusting the angle of the transmission light. Best for higher magnifications due to there being no condenser on this microscope. The clear plastic cowling of the camera is there to protect the lens and is removable if you need to for certain specimens and magnifications. It is just pressed in and can be reattached by lining up a notch and pressing it back in. There is a help menu included with the App, click on the 3 dots in the upper right side of the screen. Using a black or white colored specimen holder can eliminate issues with reflections from the camera LED's when doing reflected light specimen viewing.
